Clear Aligners

Clear aligners offer a modern, discreet way to achieve the smile you've always wanted. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners use transparent, removable trays to gently straighten your teeth.

Clear Aligners in Petersburg & Dinwiddie, VA

Clear aligners offer a discreet, comfortable way to straighten your teeth using a series of custom-made removable trays. Designed from precise digital scans and bite registration, the aligners gradually shift your teeth into better alignment—without the need for brackets or wires.

If you’re interested in treatment, you’ll first meet with the doctor to determine whether you’re a good candidate. We focus on mild to moderate orthodontic cases and will refer out any complex or comprehensive cases to a specialist.

Once approved, you’ll receive a series of aligners, typically changing them every two weeks as your teeth gradually move into place. Treatment timelines vary, but most patients see full results in about two years.

To begin treatment, patients are required to pay at least half of the estimated out-of-pocket cost and provide a credit card on file for monthly payments spread over 12 months to cover the remaining balance.

Post-Treatment Care

First 3-6 Months After Treatment

After completing orthodontic treatment, it’s important to wear your retainers full-time (day and night) for the first three months, removing them only to eat and brush. After this initial period, switch to nighttime wear only to maintain your results. Consistent nightly use is essential to prevent your teeth from shifting. Skipping wear can reduce the retainer’s effectiveness and compromise your smile.

Most retainers last up to two years, though they may wear out sooner—especially if you unknowingly grind or clench your teeth, a habit common in over 85% of people. The initial retainer used during the first three months is particularly prone to stretching due to intensive use. Inconsistent wear, improper handling, or natural wear and tear can also cause a retainer to lose its fit. Even with proper use, minor shifting can still occur, so monitoring your fit and replacing worn retainers as needed is key to long-term success.

Every 6 Months

You’ll try on a duplicate set of retainers every six months. If the new retainers feel noticeably tighter, it’s a sign that your current set has stretched. To prevent unwanted tooth movement, switch to the new set immediately.

Relying on only one set of retainers can make it difficult to detect early signs of shifting. By the time changes are visible, it may be too late to preserve your ideal alignment. While a new retainer—created from a fresh scan or impression—can help stop further shifting, it won’t move your teeth back to their previous position.

  • How does clear aligner treatment work?

Clear aligner treatment works by using a series of custom-made, removable trays that gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, with gentle adjustments made over time until your desired results are achieved.

  • Clear aligners vs. braces: What's the difference?

There are several key differences between clear aligners and traditional braces. While both are effective for straightening teeth, clear aligners have introduced a more comfortable, convenient, and discreet alternative to metal braces.

Clear aligners use transparent, removable trays, while braces rely on fixed metal brackets and wires. Clear aligners can be removed at any time, making it easier to eat normally and maintain your usual oral hygiene routine. In contrast, braces restrict certain foods and require extra care during brushing and flossing.

Clear aligners are also less likely to cause discomfort or irritation, as they don’t involve sharp wires or brackets. Plus, they’re nearly invisible when worn—making them a more subtle option compared to the noticeable appearance of metal braces.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual needs and preferences. Our team can help you decide which option is right for your smile.

  • Who can use clear aligners?

Most teens and adults with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns are good candidates for clear aligners. This includes issues like crooked or misaligned teeth, noticeable gaps and even some minor bite problems. While clear aligners are highly effective for many cases, more complex orthodontic issues may require alternative or additional treatments. A consultation can help determine whether clear aligners are the right fit for your smile goals.
